Starfish at Low Tide

We found this little guy hiding out from the bird's menacing beaks.

With all this cool stuff happening, it’s no wonder I haven’t found time for writing! I’m stirring with a more focused blog post, but haven’t found the time to sit down and write it. With the sun shining almost every day for two whole weeks (or maybe it just feels like 2 weeks) I’m bursting with energy! The house is clean, we’re setting up a bee hive, the yard work is off to a good start, the kids are equally productive and happy, and we’re just loving our home in the Pacific Northwest.

Giant Purple Sea Star is slowly uncovered as the tide moves out.

Yesterday was an especially low tide. Actually Sunday it was a teensy bit lower, but no matter. We went beach combing and found the coolest stuff, as you can see from the pictures.  My camera died right after photographing the starfish, so what you aren’t seeing is the giant red crabs, the small red sunflower sea star, and the moon snail egg cases with I initially thought were pieces of garbage!  There are so many other things to discover and question.  We’ll have to head out with a fully charged battery next time there is an especially low tide.

Three Giant Purple Sea Stars cling to a pipe waiting for the tide to return.

That is so up my alley!
My one complaint about the beaches here is that there isn’t a lot of different wildlife to see.

Guess you should visit us then! We’ve got plenty of room! :-) I forgot to mention that we saw the Aflac duck too. Turns out… he’s a goose?

Thanks you! It *was* pretty amazing. Our first experience with such creatures in their natural habitat. :-)
